Sixty Years Ago…

I think I’ll wait for the RiffTrax to come out before renting it.

I Figure I Should Post This, Too

You kids are too young to remember this thing, aren't you?

More Muppets!

Because you guys can’t get enough of posting your damned Muppets videos, here’s a couple of ad-libbed screen tests from 1979. You can hear Frank Oz and Jim Henson crack each other up as they talk to cows and hold existential discussions on the nature of being a puppet. It’s good stuff.

Hitmen Game Day: Easter Sunday Edition

Hide your bunnies and eggs, the boys are on the prowl.

How could I not pay tribute to the Easter Epic, then the longest NHL game in 44 years and fifth-longest ever, on a day like today? The play you’re looking for starts at around 4:50 of this video, but you might as well watch the first three parts, too, in order to do it right.

Today’s relevant Hitmen news is that Brandon Kozun has signed an entry-level deal with the Kings. While his size means he’s less than a guarantee at the AHL and NHL levels, he’s got enough grit and willingness to go places he doesn’t belong that I think he’ll find a way to carve out a niche for himself in the pro game. It also means that he’s pretty much done with the Hitmen after this year, because he’s got nothing left to accomplish at the junior level, which is sad, but always an eventuality. At least it’s easy to predict when a junior player’s going to move on, unlike a pro player.

Tonight, I’m hoping to see a little less action in my end of the ice during the first and third periods, because while having the action right in front of me is entertaining and all, it’s also nerve-wracking considering it’s where the Hitmen net is 2/3 of the game. And after watching some of the Easter Epic, it would only be appropriate if we had some overtime today; half the fun of the playoffs is having one good, long game full of ups and downs that sometimes leaves us with an unexpected hero. For every Pat LaFontaine, there’s a Petr Klima; for every Keith Primeau, a David Volek. Not that I’d be unhappy with another 5-2 win or anything, but I don’t remember seeing a proper playoff OT at a Hitmen game since the one I attended against Lethbridge in ’05 with my dad, which was chronicled on a previous iteration of this site, and which I may ask Gerard to throw a Phoenix Down on at some point.

Other random observation: is it just me, or has MacKenzie Royer been playing two shifts a game for most of this playoff? Last game he was replaced outright by Rigby Burgart, so maybe he’s in the doghouse for some reason.

Prediction: 3-2 Hitmen in 4OT. Happy Easter, everyone.
